How did you come up with the name Lucite.org?
Lucite.orgsm is not related
to the corporation Lucite
International, makers of the methacrylate Lucite®,
which is a plastic that is twice as clear as glass and seventeen
times as strong. Lucite.org's name does not derive from that
of Lucite International's super plastic.
Lucite.org's name is only a homographic
homonym of the trademarked wonder acrylic. It is used as
a band name, not a brand name, and it is impossible to confuse
it with the Lucite® plastic product or its manufacturer
since the industries are entirely different. Lucite.org also
takes care not to impugn or dilute the brand identity of
Lucite International.
The name Lucite.org is derived from
the Portae Lucis, or "Gates of Light," Paulus
Ricius' translation of Joseph Gikatilla's Shaare Ora.
This thirteenth-century Spanish kabbalistic work is thought
to have influenced Moses de Leon's development of the Zohar,
a seminal Kabbalistic work.
Also, Lucite.org's appellation derives
from the Biblical Hebrew word for "hazel" or "almond" tree
(Genesis 30:37 "And Jacob took him rods of green poplar,
and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white
strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the
rods."), lamed vav zayin, plus a collective suffix "-ite" (Israelite,
Hittite, Amorite, etc.). This reminds of the nut garden of
the Song of Solomon and the exegesis of the Zohar. According
to the Zohar, evil is like the bark of the emanated tree
of life: it is a husk or shell in which lower dimensions
of existing things are encased, a qlippothic "lucite
sarcophagus:"
"King Solomon, when he penetrated
into the depths of the nut garden took a nut shell (kelippah,
Song of Solomon 6:11) and drew an analogy from its layers
to these spirits which inspire sensual desires in human
beings... The Holy One, blessed be He, found it
necessary to create all these things in the world to ensure
its permanence, so that there should be, as it were, a
brain with many membranes encircling it. The whole world
is constructed on this principle upper and lower, from
the first mystic point up to the furthest removed of all
the stages. They are all coverings one to another, brain
within brain, and spirit within spirit, so that one is
a shell to another."
Thus we comprehend evil as a by-product
of any organic life cycle, akin to bad humors, the scum of
a crucible, the dregs of a draught of wine. Still, Sitra
Ahra is a part of a continuum and is not entirely devoid
of good, whether its source is the emanation of the ultimate sefirah or
from sinful natures. Good and evil commingle. It is the practice
of the Kabbalist to restore the parts of goodness to primacy.
The name of the acrylic Lucite® also
derives from a classical language, but by a more obvious
association. In 1937, E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. of Wilmington,
Delaware derived their brand name from Latin luc(i)- "light," and
added a conventional suffix to suggest a crystalline mineral, "-ite." Interestingly,
the name of the acrylic Lucite® has the same derivation
as that of the most infamous fallen angel, Lucifer.
